AASEA in collaboration with Asia Art Center
20 - 23 February 2020
Booth 54 / Level 7
The Link, Ayala Center, Makati, Philippines
In our first participation in Art Fair Philippines, AASEA and Asia Art Center are proud to present a selection of modern works by leading Filipino and Indonesian painters as well as contemporary sculptures by world-renowned Taiwanese sculptor Li Chen.
The selection of modern works provides a broader understanding of universal sensibility in the post-war era that goes beyond geographical boundaries. From the cubist manipulation by Ang Kiu Kok and
Popo Iskandar to expressionist intuition by Florencio B. Concepcion and
Zaini, the affinity towards abstraction became a common denominator in modern Southeast Asian art. This unique juxtaposition initiates the idea of a larger Southeast Asian identity rather than an isolated one.
The presentation also debuts the works of Li Chen in the Philippines. Merging the past and the present, the traditional and the modern, the material and the spiritual, Li Chen’s works explore the realm of contradiction. It is with this quality that Li Chen captures our attention and encourages us to contemplate on the natural tensions in life. Iconic works from the ‘Spiritual Journey through the Great Ether’ and ‘Ethereal Cloud’ series are featured in the 2020 edition of Art Fair Philippines.
