Born in Singapore, Vincent Hoisington (1924-1972) was a self-taught artist of Sri Lankan descent. His paintings influenced by Renaissance artists like Michelangelo and Rembrandt as well 20th century masters such as Degas and Cézanne contrast the Nanyang style of his contemporaries to offer a different perspective to the story of modern art in Singapore. Hoisington is also known for pioneering aluminium art and sculpture in Singapore.
